VN SS Group A SV

  • PRICE ON RELEASE - $68950
  • CODE - N/A

  • RELEASE DATE - November 1990
  • END DATE - Limited run of 302 (ended March 1991)
  • KERB WEIGHT - N/A

  • DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:
  • Overview - The last of the Group A line released by GMH. Built by HSV, most of the development was completed by the Holden factory with Britain's MIRA wind tunnel used to develop the aerodynamic body. HSV's most expensive vehicle to date, coming in $13000 over the predicted price as Australia headed into recession. 302 Group A's were build rather than the initially planned 500 to avoid a drawn out run out and build numbers were assigned randomly. Build numbers 123 and 161 are noted as being offered as prizes for the Tooheys 1000 promotion in 1991- both cars being repainted by a Sydney Holden Dealer in a four colour mix with a metallic fleck to result in a Metallic Black and featuring special decals. Two other Group As were finished in Alpine White- one being used as a mock up for HRT and the other belonging to GMH's engineering department. Although both count towards the total 302 built, neither wears a build number. The Group A was the first Australian produced car to feature a 17inch rim.
  • Mechanical - A revised and stronger cylinder block with four bolt mains and a provision for better cylinder head clamping, twin throttle bodies, extruded aluminum fuel rail, lighter thin wall cast inlet manifold, high flow injectors, stiffer cylinder head with improved exhaust porting, anti knock sensor, larger valves, roller rockers, larger diameter push rods and lifters, cast aluminum rocker covers and Group A plenum cover, heavy duty valve springs, rubber camshaft drive chain damper, revised cam shaft, lighter flywheel, special pistons, crank and connecting rods, stainless steel extractors, duel exhaust, high pressure electric fuel pump, heavy duty AP racing clutch, ZR1 Corvette derived ZFS6-40 six speed manual gear box only and revised Group A suspension with redeveloped rear suspension
  • Interior - As for the Berlina with a special Group A Momo steering wheel, grey velour seats with diagonal stripe pattern and matching rear seat trim and door sections with upholstered front door pockets, leather gear knob, adjustable driver's left foot rest, upgraded sports instruments
  • Exterior - Durif Red only, side body mouldings deleted and an extensive body kit developed exclusively for the SS Group A SV. Notable is the cut out in the side skirts below rear of front doors to accommodate racing exhaust outlets. SS Group A decals were used behind the front wheel arches and driver side boot lid above tail light.
